January 2019 Ring Report

The January meeting started off with a recap of the events for the 2018 magic year by President Bryn Williams. He thanked the executive and the directors for all their hard work and dedication to the club throughout the year. He also asked for more members to help fill in certain duties such as refreshments, roster book, photography, video, and the newsletter. Bryn also asked the members what they would like to see more of in order to improve the club. The members wanted more workshops.

This was Past President’s Night, an occasion where Past Presidents are invited to join in on the fun and present their one trick to the Circle that they helped build. Past Presidents Graham Kita and Alex Seaman performed their one trick. This was also one trick night where members are invited to perform a magical effect. Bryn Williams was the moderator for this event. Members performing their one effect were Jens Henriksen, Ed Goldberg, Wiley Allen, Rod Boss, Jordan Vo, Cameron Minty and Chris Estrada.

Three members were nominated for the Murray award. The Murray award is for the most creative performance during the course of the year. The candidates are Rod Boss, Robert Teszka and John Stenning.

The Stan Kramien trophy is awarded for showmanship in a performance during the course of the year. The winners will be announced at the installation banquet.

During the business portion of the meeting it was announced that the 2019 installation banquet awards and show will take place on Saturday, February 16 at the Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club in Coquitlam. Michael Finney will be the featured performer. The members were also reminded about their dues for the 2019 magic year.

This was also election night for the 2019 executives. Alex Seaman presided over the election process. Positions to be filled were President, First Vice-President, Second -Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer , and Sergeant-at- Arms. The candidate for President was Bryn Williams , First Vice-President, Rod Boss. There were two candidates for the position of Secretary, David Yoo and Care Elise Dyck. For treasurer, Wiley Allen and Sergeant-at -Arms, Dennis Chan. Alex invited additional nominees from the membership for the above positions. There were no other nominees. Care Elise Dyck was voted in as the Secretary. Congratulations to the new executive for the 2019 magic year. They will be sworn in at the installation banquet.

Alex Seaman reminded the members about the PCAM convention in the Philippines in April , the I.B. M. convention in Scottsdale Arizona in July and the Three of Clubs convention in November. Billy Hsueh and Alex Seaman are the producers of the latter event.

Dennis Chan sold raffle tickets and he also won the 50/50 draw. David Yoo provided the refreshments. Bryn Williams and Graham Kita took photos of the evening’s events.
