November 2019 Ring Report

- Ring Report submitted by Dennis Chan -

The Vancouver Magic Circle’s annual Christmas pot luck was once again a huge success! Arriving at the hall early to help set up the decorations were Graham Kita, Gabriella Lester, Mike and Chris Vetterli and Wiley Allen. Dennis the “Bulldog” Chan was in charge of the kitchen duties. Members and guests started to arrive around 6:00 p.m.

President Bryn Williams and event coordinator Graham Kita welcomed the guests and members. The buffet table was once again a gourmet’s delight. There was the usual turkey with dressing, cranberry sauce, and ham. Other dishes included quinoa salad, green salad, barbecued pork, chicken wings, hot vegetables and two fruit platters. There were also plenty of desserts and much more. Everyone enjoyed the buffet and there wasn’t too much food left over. After the dinner, it was social time. The secret Santa of bring-a-gift-get-a-gift is always a fun event. Graham Kita called out the names of the people who brought a gift. There were also plenty of prizes on the prize table. Gabriella Lester called out the winning numbers as Graham handed out the prizes. Many thanks to all who donated prizes. Gabriella Lester, Graham Kita, Wiley Allen and Dennis Chan sold 50/50 tickets and raffle tickets.

Competition time! The first competition was for the Percy Poole trophy. This is a contest for junior members. Gabriella Lester was the only competitor. Bryn Williams read the rules. She was awesome and won the Percy Poole trophy. Congratulations Gabriella! The second competition was for the William Shelly trophy. Gabriella Lester was the MC for this contest. She read the rules. This is an adult competition. The competitors ( in order of appearance ) were John Stenning, Kelvin Ng, Rod Boss, Cameron Minty, and Scott Janson. The winner of the 2019 William Shelly trophy was Rod Boss. Kelvin Ng came in second place. Congratulations to Rod and to the rest of the competitors. Gabriella told magic stories in between the acts to keep the competition flowing. Yoosik Oum, our competition chairperson collected the score sheets and tallied the scores. Wiley Allen was the time keeper. Many thanks to Gabriella Lester for doing a great job as MC for this competition. Her diction was articulate and she entertained everyone. Graham Kita drew the 50/50 raffle ticket. The winner was Dennis Chan’s guest Suzanne Gustafson. She donated her winnings back to the club. Thank you Suzanne. Long time VMC member Dave Murdoch dropped in for a surprise visit. He received a standing ovation. Thanks to Rod Boss for Driving Dennis Chan to the hall. The helping hands for the evening were Terri Kita, buffet set up, Chris Vetterli, table decorations, Chantel Allen and Suzanne Gustafson, clean up. They are non -members who help behind the scenes to make our gatherings a success. Thank you all!

Graham Kita, Terri Kita, Henry Tom, Roy Hopwood and Gabriella Lester took photos of the evening’s events. Dennis Chan donated the turkey. Many thanks to Graham and Terri Kita for doing a lot of “running around “” picking up the supplies for the pot luck. Terri, Graham and yours truly Dennis Chan spent time e-mailing each other to make sure that there was enough food and desserts for everyone.

The Vancouver Magic Circle thank each and everyone of you for attending this fun filled and festive event. Without you this event would not have been such a success.
