December 2020 Ring Report

- Ring Report submitted by Dennis Chan -

It has been a different year for the Vancouver Magic Circle for 2020 as with most clubs and organizations because of the COVID-19 health and safety regulations. Members of the magic community ended up missing going to conventions, performing and meeting up with family and friends. The Vancouver Magic Circle was no exception. Many thanks must go to president Rod Boss for setting up the zoom meetings, lectures and workshops. And also to the executive and directors for helping the club through this difficult time.Through the magic of modern technology, the club added four new members and hosted six lectures and workshops all live via zoom and all at no cost to the members.

Many thanks to Roy Hopwood for taking over the treasurer’s position when Wiley Allen had to move back to Ontario for personal reasons. Thanks to Clinton W. Gray for posting all the Vancouver Magic Circle reports on to the website.

Vancouver Magic Circle member Alex Zander hosted and produced a magic series called Just About Magic (JAM ) These free lectures and workshops are available to anyone when broadcast live. For I.B.M. members, they are archived and can be accessed to be viewed at a later date. If you have not been able to check these out, you should definitely take the time and energy to watch them. Alex has done a great job on this project. Shawn Farquhar started doing JAMs around the world when he was president of the I.B.M. Alex, with the help of Shawn brought the JAMs into the digital world of the internet. This made the JAMs available to Magicians around the world at a time when they needed camaraderie and distraction from boredom. Again, access to JAMs are free with an I.B.M. membership. Remember, membership does have its privileges.

Our new Pacific Coast Association of Magicians president Billy Hsueh has a new magic event called Hsuehnanigans. It is a game type of an event played through the computer. Many thanks to all the members of the Vancouver Magic Circle and to all the out of town guests for participating in our zoom meetings and making the Vancouver Magic Circle what the club is today.
