November 2020 Ring Report

- Ring Report submitted by Dennis Chan -

The Vancouver Magic Circle’s year always ends with a Christmas pot luck dinner, decorating the hall, contests, gift exchange and social time with family and friends. Because of the COVID-19 health regulations, the club was not able to hold the annual event at the hall. Instead the event went online via zoom as a get together chat session.

The get together took place on Wednesday, November 25 2020. The event started at 6:00 p.m. Many thanks to Rod Boss for setting up the event. Normally there are two contests at the November meeting. The first one is for the William Shelly trophy which is an adult competition and the second contest is for the Percy Poole trophy which is for junior members. We did not have any have any competitors for the junior competition. Also we did have some competitors interested in performing but never did get three of them to commit. Unfortunately, because of COVID -19 and the restrictions imposed by it, we had to cancel the competitions at this time. I think the reason we couldn’t get enough people to sign up was because it’s difficult to set up a stage competition over zoom. Had we been able to run it like the Children’s competition I think people would’ve shown up to compete.

Our guest lecturer for the evening was Jamie Salinas. During his lecture, he performed a colour prediction from a small packet of M and M candies which was still sealed. When he opened the packet, the colours and amount of candies matched his prediction. He also performed a lottery prediction and a catching a bullet in the hand effect. He also did a cold reading effect. He took his time to explain in very fine detail on how to perform the effects. He also had products that were available for purchase. For those who missed Jamie’s lecture, a replay can be found on the Vancouver Magic Circle’s Facebook page. Thanks to Rod Boss for setting this up.

After the meeting, several members “hung around” for a chat session. Considering the situation, everyone had an enjoyable evening. Rod Boss thanked everyone for joining in on the fun. The Vancouver Magic Circle is hoping to see you all again in 2021. Hopefully we will be able to make it a live event again. There were 30 participants in attendance.
