March 2022 Ring Report

The Vancouver Magic Circle’s monthly meeting took place on Thursday, March 24 via zoom with a chat session before the actual start of the meeting. Then our new president, Care Elise Dyck officially opened the meeting by greeting the members and guests. She then introduced Bizzaro, our featured lecturer for the evening.

Bizarro opened his lecture with a comedy card stabbing effect with explanations and how to perform it. The main theme of his lecture was how to prepare and make gimmicked cards and how to perform with them in order to get the desired effect. He also did a disappearing water effect with a newspaper. His lecture was specially put together for the Vancouver Magic Circle. He has lectured for the Vancouver Magic Circle several times. He is a Vancouver Magic Circle favourite. After his lecture, there was a question and answer time with Bizzaro and the members. Everyone enjoyed the lecture. Care thanked Bizzaro for another great evening of magic. Thanks to Care for inviting Bizzaro back to Vancouver.

It was now competition time. This month’s competition was for the Cecil Ackery trophy for excellence in comedy magic performed by an adult member. Jordan Vo and Scott Jansen are in charge of the competitions. Jordan was the host and MC for this competition. Graham Kita read the rules. The time keeper was Scott Jansen. The competitors for the Cecil Ackery trophy were Cameron Minty, Roy Hopwood and Yoosik Oum. While the scores were being tallied, via computer, Jordan showed the medals and certificates that he won from previous. competitions. After the scores were tallied, the winner of the Cecil Ackery trophy for 2022 was Roy Hopwood. Congratulations to Roy and to the rest of the competitors.

After the competition, Jordan did some magic. He also gave some card lessons to Daniel Schwartz. Daniel is a young student of magic. Care thanked everyone for attending the meeting. There was a chat session after the meeting.

There were 29 participants in attendance.
